TV presenter and pop star Rochelle Humes will publish a picture book with Kings Road Publishing's Studio Press later this year.
According to parent company Bonnier Publishing, Humes - formerly of group The Saturdays - was inspired to write the book, which is about a girl who wants hair like her best friend's, after her daughter made a comment that all princesses have straight hair. It will be released in September to tie in with the launch of Humes’ new coconut oil skin and curly hair product range.
Humes has also started a #curlslikeus movement on Instagram to encourage people to be happy with their curly hair.
Natalie Jerome, acquisitions director and publisher at Bonnier Publishing, said: “We are hugely excited to be launching Rochelle’s first picture book at Bonnier Publishing, a book that will celebrate difference and empower young children to embrace who they are… The team here are passionate about ensuring that all children see themselves reflected in books and Rochelle couldn’t be a better, more vocal advocate for this message. It’s fantastic to be in a position to support her mission to be the change she wants to see.”
Studio Press acquired world rights in all languages from Rachel Mills of the Furniss Lawton agency and the book will be out in September.
The title and illustrator will be announced in due course.
