Actress, writer and comedian Sally Phillips is set to narrate Alice Frankin’s debut Life Hacks for a Little Alien (riverrun, Quercus), released in Feburary 2025. The new book is the lead debut for the Quercus literary imprint, and is a “tender, life-affirming novel; the story of a young neurodivergent girl growing up in the nineties and noughties, navigating a world that makes her feel like she’s from another planet”.
Commissioning editor Jasmine Palmer pre-empted UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Clare Alexander at Aitken Alexander in July 2023.
Phillips said: “I am beyond honoured to be asked to narrate ‘Life Hacks for a Little Alien’, a life-affirming, charming book full of wonders, a love letter to language and its power of connection and a must-read for anyone, neuro-spicy or otherwise, who’s ever felt they don’t fit in.”
Phillips best known for her work in TV sitcoms such as ‘I’m Alan Partridge’, ‘Jam & Jerusalem’, ‘Miranda’ and ‘Veep’, films such as the Bridget Jones trilogy and TV comedy shows like ‘Taskmaster’. She is also a campaigner for disability rights and special educational needs.
Audio editor Carrie Hutchinson said: “We are so pleased and excited to have Sally narrate Alice Franklin’s incredible debut. Sally embodies all the warmth, heart and humour of the book while also being able to lean on her personal understanding of neurodivergent children to portray Little Alien with kindness and empathy. Her performance is everything we could have hoped for – tender, engaging and funny to boot.”
