Sandycove has scored the “hotly anticipated” autobiography from the most decorated Irish rugby player of all time, Johnny Sexton.
Michael McLoughlin, publisher, acquired world rights for Obsessed: The Autobiography from Ciarán Medlar at BDO Ireland for publication in October 2024.
In Obsessed, Sexton offers an “honest look” at his childhood, his early experiences in club and professional rugby, his relationship with his teammates and his ideas about the game itself.
The publisher added: “No Irish rugby player has ever achieved more, or been a source of more inspiration to teammates and fans alike, than Johnny Sexton. All of this would have seemed highly unlikely as late as May 2009, when – aged 24 – he was nowhere near first choice at Leinster, and still uncapped by Ireland.”
McLoughlin said: “It is a great honour to publish Johnny’s autobiography. He is one of the best rugby, in fact sportspeople, Ireland has ever produced. His leadership and drive to be the best he can be both on and off the field will make this a riveting read.”
Sexton added: “I am very pleased to be working with the Penguin team again. In this book I will openly share my personal story and aim to give a full and honest insight into my life on and off the rugby pitch – one that I hope that readers will enjoy.”
