Scholastic UK has acquired UK and Irish rights to I Need a New Bum, written by Dawn McMillan and illustrated by Ross Kinnaird.
The book is enjoying a renaissance, according to the publisher, because of a video of it being read by Janice Clark, a.k.a. the Scottish Granny, whose rendition of Wonky Donkey (also published in the UK by Scholastic) went viral on Facebook.
Samantha Smith, publisher of fiction and picture books, said: “It’s been phenomenal to see the influence of the Scottish Granny in getting families reading and laughing together. We’re so pleased to be able to bring another of her favourites, the irrepressibly hilarious I Need a New Bum, by the talented duo of Dawn McMillan and Ross Kinnaird, to UK audiences in time for the Christmas gifting season.”
Smith acquired the UK rights from Peter Dowling, publisher at Oratia in New Zealand, and will publish on 20th December.
