Scholastic has scooped Amazing Me, Amazing You, a picture book from autism ambassador Christine McGuinness and illustrator Hannah Jayne Lewin.
Elizabeth Scoggins, publisher for non-fiction, brand and licensing acquired world all language rights for the text were acquired from Marie-Claire Giddings at the CAN Group. Rights to the illustrations were acquired directly from Jayne Lewin. The book will be published in March 2023.
McGuinness was diagnosed with autism, alongside her three children. She is also a charity ambassador for Caudwell Children and the National Autistic Society.
Amazing Me, Amazing You provides “strong messages of kindness, friendship and the importance of accepting each other”. Jayne Lewin’s “vibrant, cheerful” illustrations complement McGuinness’ text. The book also contains information at the back of the book to help parents teach their children about neurodiversity.
McGuinness commented: “I’m so excited and proud that I have written my first children’s book, inspired by our experience of autism. Amazing Me, Amazing You is a book about inclusivity for everybody and explains in a child-friendly way that everybody is different and that is something to celebrate!”
Scoggins said: “Christine McGuinness’ autism journey and commitment to shining a light on neurodiversity is inspiring – both from her own personal experience and as a parent of autistic children. Amazing Me, Amazing You is the perfect positive picture book to help parents and children celebrate uniqueness.”
