Scholastic UK has seized Let’s Talk from TikTok influencer and invisible disability campaigner Jessie Yendle.
Elizabeth Scoggins, publisher for non-fiction, brands and licensing, acquired world rights in all languages from Emily James at We Are Social Nation. An "empowering book for teens and young adults," Let’s Talk will be published in January 2024.
The synopsis said: "On a mission to fight her debilitating life-long stammer after the pandemic, Jessie Yendle set herself a TikTok challenge: to film herself ‘having a go’ ordering at drive-throughs, starting conversations with people and sharing her experience with the world.
"Her videos went viral and 3.6 million now follow her journey of ’being the woman I needed to see as a little girl who had a stammer’."
As well as documenting her progress overcoming her stammer, Yendle’s social media content also combines make-up, skincare tips, and body confidence. She said: “Growing up I never had anyone to look up to who had the same struggles as me.
"I wanted to write a book which would feel like a big sister; you can carry Let’s Talk around in your pocket and open when you need advice, feel-good positivity and top tips."
Scoggins added: “We are delighted to be publishing this empowering book from Jessie Yendle. She is a brilliant role model for anyone struggling with self-confidence and we look forward to spreading Jessie’s message of positivity in Let’s Talk.”
