Scholastic UK has acquired David O’Connell’s Beastie Bros, an "accessible and funny", highly illustrated black and white young fiction series aimed at readers aged six and over, starring a minibeast duo.
Julia Sanderson, senior commissioning editor at Scholastic UK, acquired world rights in all languages in a two-book deal from Jodie Hodges at United Agents.
O’Connell said: “I’m delighted and hugely grateful that Dribble and Dash have found a home at Scholastic. Julia and the team have been remarkably tolerant of my unhealthy obsession with creepy-crawlies, my warped sense of humour and my daft drawings, and I can’t wait to inflict the result on everyone else. Get ready for entomological uproar with the Beastie Bros!”
Sanderson, senior commissioning editor at Scholastic UK, added: “You cannot read Beastie Bros without smiling. It has the adventure, captivating visuals and playful humour of a comic, with a genius voice in a traditional illustrated fiction style. With characters like Flattened Dominic the slug and Mr Truffle the ball of dung to meet, readers have so much joy in store!”
Beastie Bros, written and illustrated by David O’Connell, will be published in February 2025.
