Scholastic UK has snapped up a picture book by Gemma Atkinson, presenter of the CBeebies show "The Toddler Club". Dogs Don’t Dance, illustrated in "joyous detail" by Lisa Hunt, will be published in February 2024.
Elizabeth Scoggins, publisher of non-fiction, brands and licensing, acquired world rights for the text from Vicky Chilver at Becca Barr Management and the illustrations from Lisa Hunt at The Bright Agency.
Atkinson’s first picture book follows "dynamic doggy duo" Dave and Dusty on a "confidence-boosting journey of self-discovery".
Atkinson said: "I’m thrilled to be working alongside Lisa to create a fun-filled book for children to enjoy. Combining our nation’s love of dogs with many people’s love of dance – it’s the perfect combo for a feel-good book. Proving we can all do anything we put our minds to and have fun at the same time, I hope you all enjoy Dogs Don’t Dance as much as I do."
Scoggins added: "We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Gemma on this project. She has a natural flair for creativity and a way with words that is sure to resonate with children and parents alike. Dogs Don’t Dance combines humour, action, adventure and warmth in perfect harmony – all perfectly captured in Lisa’s artwork. We can’t wait for children to read all about Dave the dog’s journey."
