John Murray is publishing We Have No Idea, a book exploring "everything we don't know about the universe", accompanied by 400 "hilarious" cartoons and infographics.
The book will be written by Jorge Cham, a cartoonist at PhD Comics who earned a PhD in robotics at Stanford, and Daniel Whiteson, a professor of experimental particle physics at the University of California.
The book will attempt to answer a number of impossible questions such as: why does the universe have a speed limit; why aren’t we all made of antimatter; what, or who, is attacking Earth with tiny, superfast particles; and what is dark matter, why does it keep ignoring us?
Georgina Laycock at John Murray bought British Commonwealth rights from Caspian Dennis on behalf of Seth Fishman at The Gernert Agency. She said: "The publishing teams on both sides of the Atlantic that made What If? a huge global hit have reunited for the first time and we can’t wait to get everyone reading this book. We Have No Idea turns science into an amazing (and very funny) adventure, with all kinds of added extras including an exclusive foreword for the UK that explains the positive scientific benefits of eating more chocolate."
The book will be published in May and Cham and Whiteson will be over for a book tour in June. Confirmed events include the Hay Festival, Royal Institution, Oxford Blackwells and Edinburgh Blackwells.
