Scribe has bagged I Hear You’re Rich, a new “sharply observed” collection from Diane Williams.
Publisher Molly Slight acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Hannah Whittaker at Rights People. The collection will be published in August 2023.
I Hear You’re Rich will be Williams’ 11th collection. Her work has previously appeared in Granta magazine, London Review of Books and The White Review.
Slight commented: “Sharply observed, sly, funny, irreverent, and suffused with utterly recognisable and often confronting truths about human nature, Diane Williams’ short stories – many no more than a page – have earned her the well-deserved label ‘the godmother of flash fiction’. Her fans include Jonathan Franzen, Rumaan Alam, Hernán Diaz, Merve Emre and Sam Lipsyte – to name a few – as well as Lydia Davis, who Williams publishes regularly in her magazine NOON. I was completely hooked on this collection from the very first page, totally enamoured with how Williams’ manages to say so much so succinctly. Each line brims with subtext; not a single word, or even punctuation mark, is wasted. I cannot wait to reunite existing UK fans with Williams’ work and introduce her to many new readers when we publish in August.”
