Simon & Schuster UK’s Scribner imprint has acquired The Paris Trilogy by Colombe Schneck, an award-winning writer and director.
Scribner publishing director Sophie Missing acquired UK and commonwealth rights from Susanna Lea at Susanna Lea Associates. US rights were acquired by Penguin Press, and a further five territories have been sold to date. It will be translated into English by award-winning translators Lauren Elkin and Natasha Lehrer.
The Paris Trilogy, which will be published by Scribner UK in hardback, e-book and audio in spring 2024, consists of three semi-autobiographical takes on a woman’s life (Seventeen, Friendship and Swimming: A Love Story) that together explore questions of sexuality, bodily autonomy, femininity, friendship and loss.
Schneck has directed four documentary films, authored 11 books of fiction and non-fiction, and has received prizes from the Académie Française, Madame Figaro and the Society of French Writers, as well as having been shortlisted for the Renaudot, Femina and Interallié prizes. She said: “I couldn’t be happier than to be published in the UK by Sophie Missing and Scribner – I love Sophie’s taste, and often find myself gravitating towards books that she’s edited.”
Missing said: “Colombe Schneck’s writing is elegant, powerful, direct, and shot through with a wry humour that I very much enjoyed. I so admire what she is doing in these three works and her vision in weaving them together to tell a bigger story about a woman’s body and life. I’m thrilled to be bringing her work to UK readers and delighted that Lauren Elkin and Natasha Lehrer are translating.”
