Welsh independent publisher Seren Books has acquired the debut novel by Stereophonics’ drummer Jamie Morrison.

Seren acquired exclusive world, all-language rights to the novel direct from the author. Wonderboy and The Life & Times of Drewford Alabama will be published on 23rd September.

The novel follows a fictional drummer, Andrew "Pop" Morrison, also nicknamed “Wonderboy”, and his band as they hit the big-time, only for things to go badly wrong.

Morrison, who formed the band Noisettes in his teens, is better known as the drummer from the band the Stereophonics.

Morrison has written more than 100 short stories, but this is his first full-length novel.

He said: “Seren has been full of enthusiasm and positivity for my work. Every step of the process to get to the elusive finish line of being published has been simply wonderful. For my debut novel, I couldn’t have hoped for a more vibrant team of people to be working with.”

Sarah Johnson, deputy publishe, said: “Seren is delighted to have acquired Jamie Morrison’s debut novel. As an independent publisher, the opportunity to work with authors like Jamie doesn’t come along very often, and we’re excited to launch his writing career. Wonderboy gives readers a glimpse into his vibrant, creative mind and there will be a chance to learn more when Jamie is out on the road meeting fans and readers at events in the autumn.”
