Jeff Zentner’s debut YA novel The Serpent King (Andersen Press Ltd) has been optioned.
SuVen Harris Entertainment has optioned the book with plans to develop the story for film and television with Magnolia Entertainment. The deal was brokered by Charlie Olsen of the New York-based literary agency InkWell. SuVen Harris partners Matt Sutherland and Brittany Harris have previously produced the feature film “A Larger Life” released in 2015.
The Serpent King tells the story of three misfit teens in the American rural South on the cusp of graduating high school. The debut was longlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal in 2016 and won the American Library Association’s William C Morris Award.
Zentner said: “I am so excited to be working with Brittany and Matt on adapting The Serpent King for film and television. They love the book and understand it deeply, and I have no doubt they’ll do it justice.”
In January 2018, Andersen Press will be reissuing The Serpent King with new cover art.
