Actor and director Seth Rogen's “hilarious” Yearbook, a book of essays about growing up, fitting in and standing out, has been scooped by Sphere.
Emily Barrett, editorial director at the Little, Brown imprint, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Meredith Miller at United Talent. The hardback, e-book and an audiobook read by Rogen will publish on 11th May 2021.
“Yearbook is more insightful than anything with this amount of drug talk and profanity has any right to be,” the publisher said.
Rogen is an actor, writer, producer, director, entrepreneur, and philanthropist known for roles in comedies like “Superbad” and “Knocked Up”. Alongside longtime collaborators Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, he produces film and television projects through their production company, Point Grey Pictures.
Rogen can next be seen in Hulu’s series “Pam & Tommy”, which has been spearheaded by Point Grey. Currently, he stars in Brandon Trost’s film “An American Pickle”, in which he plays both lead characters. Rogen and Goldberg also launched Houseplant, a Canada-based cannabis company. In 2012, Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller-Rogen, founded HFC, a national non-profit organisation that funds research and provides care for families coping with Alzheimer’s.
Sandy Rogen, the actor's mother, said: “At first I was worried that Seth was writing a book, because I was like, ‘Oh no! What’s he gonna say?!’ I was actually scared to even read it. But I’m very happy I did. It’s not really a memoir, like I thought it might be. I guess it’s more of a bunch of funny stories? Does that make sense? He talks about doing stand-up when he was a kid (I drove him to all his shows!), his grandparents, high school, moving to LA, meeting some famous people, things like that. If I’m being honest, I really wish there wasn’t so much drug talk. Why does he need all that? It’s like ‘We get it!’ And some of the stories? I mean, they’re entertaining, but I was just shocked they happened and he never told me! Overall, I think it’s more sweet and funny than anything, so I like it, and I’m glad he wrote it, but I’d be even more glad if he called me more.”
Barrett added: "Seth is one of the funniest and most-talented people in Hollywood and we’re ecstatic to welcome him to join other entertainment stalwarts on the Sphere list such as Tina Fey, Richard Herring and Ant and Dec. Yearbook is everything his fans will want from his debut book: a chilled, somewhat smoky meander through the mind of a comedy genius as he shares some wonderfully ridiculous and hilarious going-ons.”
