Orion imprint Seven Dials is serving up a book of Indian vegan recipes from chef and cookery teacher Romy Gill.
Publisher Amanda Harris bought world rights from Anne Kibel at AK Artist Management. Zaika: Vegan Recipes From India will be published on 5th September 2019.
The book includes more than 100 recipes, inspired by Gill’s heritage, ranging from fast weekday suppers to leisurely weekend meals. A foreword was provided by the Observer Food Monthly's editor, Allan Jenkins.
Harris said: “I’m so excited to be working with Romy Gill on this very special book. Romy is the most innovative and passionate chef, and her food is off-the-scale delicious. Romy has written a collection of recipes that makes a plant-based diet not only achievable but wholly desirable. Styled with warmth and richness, this book already has the hallmark of becoming a modern classic.”
Gill opened her Thornbury restaurant, Romy’s Kitchen, in September 2013. She was made an MBE in 2016, writes recipe columns for the Independent and regularly appears on TV and radio.
She said: “Although Indian food is often thought of in terms of lots of curried meat, it is a country that’s embraced plant-based cooking for centuries. Many regions of the country enjoy vegetarian and vegan food almost exclusively, so I’m very excited to translate that ethos into British kitchens, especially as vegan food is so on-trend at the moment. The recipes in the book are mostly drawn from my childhood memories, and bring together fresh, bold and vibrant flavours – meaning you definitely won’t miss the meat.”
