Seven Dials has signed How to Drink Wine by Tom Surgey, a “useful, easy to digest wine book that includes everything required to authentically appreciate and enjoy wine".
Commissioning editor George Brooker bought world all-language rights from Louise Leftwich at DML, with publication scheduled for May 2024.
Setting out the fundamentals without the excess detail that most wine drinkers never require, the publisher says, How to Drink Wine will “inspire readers to make conscious choices and feel confident in making wine part of their busy, modern lives".
Surgey, co-founder of drinks agency Glass Half Full, learnt the basics of wine at The Ivy in London and has gone on to make regular appearances on TV, such as on ITV’s “Love Your Weekend”. He said: “Wine is a huge part of my life and it’s not the classic ‘wine trope’ that gets me. It’s the opportunity wine presents to bring people together, explore cultures and stories and share delicious experiences.
“I’m excited to be able to articulate my approach to wine as closely as possible to my live shows. This book is for everyone, a gateway to feeling comfy in understanding and choosing wine.”
Brooker said: “It’s very rare you meet someone who is as knowledgeable and passionate about their subject as Tom. His style and approach are infectious and I’m incredibly excited to be growing Seven Dials’s drinks list with this fantastic introduction from the next big name in wine.”
