Silvergate Media has optioned Joe Todd-Stanton's children's book The Secret of Black Rock for TV.
Silvergate Media acquired TV series rights from Flying Eye Books, which published the book in 2018. Development of the series will begin immediately.
Written and illustrated by Todd-Stanton, The Secret of Black Rock won the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2018 for illustrated books.
The book is a modern folktale that tells the story of an adventurous young girl named Erin, her dog Archie and her mum, a fisherwoman. Erin sets out to find the truth about the stories of Black Rock, only to find that it is a peaceful creature in need of protection.
Todd-Stanton commented: "I always pictured the The Secret of Black Rock as an animation in my head but I didn’t have ability to make it, so it’s surreal and exciting to think it might actually happen. Silvergate has done such a beautiful job with Hilda and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next."
Silvergate Media has previously developed children's brands such as Petter Rabit and Octonauts.
