Silvertail signs Rinder's 'unmissable' Scientology memoir
Silvertail Books has signed Mike Rinder’s "extraordinarily powerful" memoir of his time in the church of Scientology entitled A Billion Years.
Publisher Humfrey Hunter acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, including audio, from Cullen Stanley at Cullen Stanley International on behalf of Steve Fisher at APA. The memoir will be published in 27th September 2022.
Rinder became Scientology’s international spokesperson and the head of its office of special affairs after being introduced to Scientology at aged five and signing a billion-year contract with the church. He helped negotiate Scientology’s tax exemption from the IRS and engaged with prominent celebrity Scientologists including Tom Cruise, Lisa Marie Presley and John Travolta.
Rinder "escaped" in 2007 and now helps others leave the church. In A Billion Years, Rinder reveals the "dark dystopian" truth about Scientology, giving insights into the religion in a "harrowing but fulfilling story of personal resilience".
Hunter said: "It is a privilege to be publishing Mike’s book. He is an incredibly brave man who has been through an ordeal unimaginable to most of us. A Billion Years is an unmissable, gripping read which presents a remarkable new perspective on how Scientology operates."
