Simon & Schuster Children’s Books has scooped an "unputdownable YA star-crossed romance", See You on Venus, by screenwriter and debut author Victoria Vinuesa.
Amina Youssef, senior commissioning editor, bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Hannah Babcock, subsidiary rights director at Penguin Random House Children’s Books US. S&S Children’s will publish the book in September 2023 simultaneously with Delacorte Press, an imprint of PRH Children’s US. Publication will be supported by digital marketing and PR.
Vinuesa has adapted the book for screen, and the film will be released in the US in July. Produced by Brian Pitt, it stars actors Virginia Gardner and Alex Aiono.
The synopsis of the book says: "Two teens embark on a journey to Spain to discover the meaning of love, death and everything in between. Mia has had a heart condition her whole life. She’s not afraid of dying; her real fear is tracking down her biological mother.
"Kyle has always been the life of the party until the car accident that killed his best friend. Now he’s willing to do anything to escape reality. After a twist of fate, Mia and Kyle meet and travel to Spain in search of answers to mend their broken hearts. But why did the universe really bind them together?"
Youssef commented: "See You on Venus is the perfect combination of swoon-worthy romance and tear-jerking declarations brought to life by two unforgettable characters and their once in a lifetime road trip. I can already see the viral weepy BookTok videos!
"The stars aligned for S&S when we acquired Victoria Vinuesa’s exceptional debut; we’re proud to publish her on our list of bestselling and award-winning YA, and we’re over the moon that the film adaptation will be available this year, allowing the book’s fanbase to grow to even higher heights."
