Simon & Schuster has signed Field of Dreams: 100 Years of Wembley in 100 Matches by Nige Tassell.
Non-fiction senior editor Frances Jessop acquired world all-language rights from Kevin Pocklington at the North Literary Agency. The book will be published on 30th March.
Tassell has worked with Jessop on four books since The Bottom Corner (Yellow Jersey) in 2016.
Field of Dreams tells the history of Wembley stadium trough 100 "iconic" matches that have shaped the arena’s legacy, "telling a lively alternative history of football and Britain".
"It’s the story of how football found its home," said the publisher.
Tassell said: "Wembley has always held a fascination for me, right from the time that my grandad told me about going to the first cup final there—the famous White Horse final—as a boy in 1923. It’s been a real privilege to dive into the stadium’s history, not just to revisit its most famous matches but to also shed a light on its lesser-known, but still vital, games. And it’s also been a thrill to hear the first-hand stories of some of these matches’ protagonists."
Jessop added: "Nige has a talent not only for sniffing out great book ideas but also brilliant stories and interviewees. This is a fascinating journey through the history of Wembley stadium and football, as entertaining as it is enlightening, and with its masterful command of a century of history marks an exciting step forward in Nige’s football-writing career."
