Hodder & Stoughton is to publish a "major" new book from Sir Chris Hoy after he revealed in an interview over the weekend that his cancer was terminal.
Susannah Otter, publishing director for non-fiction at Hodder & Stoughton, has bought UK & Commonwealth (excluding Canada), and Europe rights to All That Matters by Sir Chris Hoy from Emily Barrett at The Blair Partnership, after a "highly selective submission and hotly contested auction". All That Matters will publish on 7th November in hardback, e-book and audiobook, which will be read by the author.
The book will cover Hoy’s 2023 cancer diagnosis in full, and will reveal the extent of his illness and how he plans to live the rest of his life.
The publisher added: "It covers the shock and the processing of the news that he has stage 4 cancer, his life in retirement more generally, and ends with a deep resolve to turn this incredibly difficult diagnosis into something positive that will help others."
The Sunday Times’ News Review will serialise All That Matters this coming Sunday, 27th October. This will accompany a publicity and marketing campaign to support publication.
Otter said: “Working closely with Chris over the past year has been a remarkable honour. Cancer will (and indeed does) affect us all. His unwavering determination to find exactly the right words and his unflinching courage in deciding to share where he has been and where he is going has made for the most fulfilling and inspiring editorial experience. I know this book will help countless others grappling with diagnoses.”
Hoy said: “All That Matters is my opportunity to offer insight into how a family deals with a diagnosis like mine, and to inspire others who are on a difficult journey to find a way back to living a good, hopeful life. Writing this book has allowed me to reflect on how important it is to be positive and focus on the present.”
