Mulholland Books has acquired a thriller exploring social media, Friends Like These, by Sarah Alderson.
Hodder’s crime and thriller publisher Ruth Tross acquired world rights in all languages from Amanda Preston at LBA.
The book centres on Lizzie and Becca, two "friends" in name only. Thanks to Becca’s habit of sharing everything online, Lizzie knows everything about her – and finds her perfect life both sickening and fascinating. When Becca disappears, Lizzie finds herself caught up in whatever happened to her, and she realises that knowing everything doesn’t really mean anything...
Tross said: "We all have friends who seem not to have any secrets – in Sarah’s twisty tale, the truth is quite different. It is the perfect thriller for fans of topical, page-turning suspense and I can’t wait for others to be as gripped and surprised by it as I was."
Alderson is the author of a memoir, Can We Live Here? (Blink Reality), seven YA novels, and writes romance under the name Mila Gray. She is now based in LA, where she works on film and TV projects for companies including Netflix.
Hodder & Stoughton will publish Friends Like These in print and e-book in December 2018.
