Solaris has bagged Masquerade in a two-book deal with O O Sangoyomi.
Editor David Moore acquired UK and British Commonwealth, excluding Canada, English language rights from Chris Scheina at Forge Books. Masquerade will be published on 4th July 2024.
Sangoyomi’s debut novel is a "luscious literary speculative tale of power and freedom" set in an alternate 15th-century west Africa and inspired by the Ancient Greek myth of Persephone.
The story follows Òdòdó whose hometown has been conquered by the warrior king. When Òdòdó is kidnapped by the warrior king to be his wife and "as tensions with rival states reveal elaborate schemes and enemies hidden in plain sight, she must re-forge the shaky loyalties of the court to her favour, or risk losing everything – including her life".
Sangoyomi commented: "I cannot wait to introduce my medieval west African retelling to the UK and I’m delighted that my debut novel has found a home at Solaris.”
Moore said: “Masquerade is a visceral, powerful, gorgeously written book that will introduce readers to a world they know too little about.”
