Solaris has signed Cry, Voidbringer, a dark fantasy novel from Elaine Ho.
Editor Amanda Raybould acquired UK and British Commonwealth rights from Jennifer Azantian at Azantian Literary Agency. North American rights went to Bindery Books. The novel will be published in autumn 2025.
Cry, Voidbringer follows a warrior, conscripted to battle the kingdom’s imperialist masters, who rescues a child, a child whose life may turn the outcome of the war. To survive, "they must navigate the games kingdoms play, where their captors look to reclaim a memory of an empire, but the cities they reconquer don’t want their version of liberation".
Ho said: "I’m thrilled to be working with the fantastic Amanda Raybould and the rest of the team at Solaris. It’s a huge honour to be part of the list among authors I admire, and I can’t wait to share Cry, Voidbringer with the world.”
Raybould added: “I was enthralled by the world that Elaine presented in Cry, Voidbringer – her writing is exquisite and visceral – but the true heart of the novel is the friendship formed between two people who believe they have no choice at all, but who still fight for their freedom."
