Souvenir Press has snapped up a new children’s Murdle series by the bestselling author of the adult puzzle books, G T Karber.
Publishing director Cindy Chan acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Melissa Edwards at Stonesong, with the first book — Murdle Junior: Curious Crimes for Curious Minds, to be released in November.
The series is aimed at children aged nine to 12 years old, and follows his series for adults, which topped the UK Christmas bestseller chart last year, selling over 400,000 copies through the Total Comsumer Market.
"Join four junior sleuths on their daring detective journeys deciphering codes, navigating maps and solving mazes to catch the dastardly culprits of fiendish crimes — and earn your own Murdle Junior badge,’ the synopsis says. "With over 30 mysteries featuring key suspects, locations, clues and more to enter into your trusty deduction grid, Murdle Junior: Curious Crimes for Curious Minds is an introduction to a nefarious world kids will love to dive into, using logic and the power of deduction to figure out each whodunnit."
Chan said: "A surprisingly large number of us Profilers have children who love doing Murdle, so a ‘Murdle for Kids’ was only a matter of time! I’m delighted to say that G T Karber is expanding the Murdleverse is to include intrepid young detectives so that Murdlers young and old can try some deducting together. Murdle is actually quite family-friendly –apart from all the murder, of course. There’ll be less death in Murdle Junior but still lots of peril!"
Karber added: "I’m so excited to share the stories of the junior members of the Detective Club. For too long, they’ve laboured in the shadows of their adult counterparts. But kids are just as capable of solving a mystery as any grown-up, and in fact, their natural curiosity and endless energy might make them better detectives than us adults."
