Souvenir Press will publish Drawing on the Dominant Eye, Betty Edwards’ follow-up to Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, which saw a significant rise in popularity during lockdown, says the publisher.
First published in the UK by Souvenir Press in 1981, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is a drawing instruction manual. According to the publisher, sales rose by 400% in May and 600% in June 2020 compared to May and June in 2019.
Illustrated throughout, Drawing on the Dominant Eye will reveal what role our "dominant eye" plays in how we perceive, create, and are seen by those around us. It will also help readers discover a new way of drawing and problem solving as well as argue for the importance of arts education for all.
Souvenir Press acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from US publisher TarcherPerigee.
Edwards said: "I am delighted that Souvenir Press is publishing my new book, Drawing on the Dominant Eye. This extends my four-decades-long association with Souvenir Press, an association that has been wonderfully productive and positive. I am so happy that readers in the UK have continued to use my books to help them not only learn to draw but—more importantly—to learn to see and perceive the world around them."
A new edition of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Workbook: Guided Practice in the Five Basic Skills of Drawing will be published on 5th November, with Drawing on the Dominant Eye to follow on 12th November 2020.
