Pan Macmillan has acquired a “spellbinding” debut novel from social media creator Lucy Jane Wood (@lucyjanewood), in a two-book deal.
Editor Lucy Brem acquired world volume rights to Rewitched and one other novel directly from the author. Pan Mac will publish Rewitched in hardback in autumn 2024.
Rewitched follows Belladonna Blackthorn, “a burnt-out witch balancing work at her beloved Lunar Books with concealing her powers from those around her”.
The synopsis says: “When her 30th birthday brings a trial that threatens her magic forever, Belle has the month of October to fix things, and will need all the help she can get – from the women in her life, from an unlikely mentor figure and the (infuriating) coven watchman who’s sworn to protect her.”
Wood is an online content creator with over 200,000 YouTube subscribers and 85,000 Instagram followers, sharing “a range of cosy content that spans books, travel, fashion and lifestyle”.
Brem commented: “Rewitched is the perfect autumn read – a stunning, magical debut that is The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches [Hodderscape] meets the seasonal, nostalgic vibes of "Gilmore Girls" and "Charmed", all with Lucy’s trademark warmth, magic and humour. This novel is very dear to my heart and I can’t wait for readers to fall in love with Belle and her world as much as I have.”
Wood added: “I’m still in disbelief that this has happened, but could not be more delighted that Pan Macmillan is bringing Rewitched to bookshelves. The first spark of this book began just as a thought about the fading power of potential, but soon transformed by itself into a story about the magic of love in all its forms. Rewitched is the combination of a lifelong love for the 1990s witches who ruled my childhood, thrown into the cauldron with cosiness, nostalgia and everyday magic. I am so excited for Belle and her gang of lovely weirdos to cast their spell between actual, real-life pages.”
