Publishing director Ed Wood at Sphere has acquired world rights in two new novels from author Keith Stuart, in a deal with Eugenie Furniss at 42.
Sphere has published three books by Stuart to date, including Richard & Judy bestseller A Boy Made of Blocks and, most recently The Frequency of Us, which was a BBC Two "Between the Covers" pick and featured on BBC Radio 4’s "Book at Bedtime".
His fourth book, Love is a Curse, publishes in April 2024, and follows a young woman as she investigates multiple generations of her family to find out whether the women in it are really cursed to always lose their true love.
Wood said: “Keith has a unique imagination and an even more unique voice. He’s one of very few writers who has the ability to make you laugh and cry in a single story, and just gets better and better: the prose gets ever more beautiful, the characters live and breathe in your mind. I’m thrilled we’ll be continuing our publishing with him over the coming years.”
Stuart added: “I am so thrilled to be at Sphere/Little Brown for another two novels – it is an incredibly supportive and creative place to write stories. Love is a Curse combines many of my obsessions – the Gothic, ghost stories and what love actually means – and I’m so fortunate to have a publisher and editor who let me write what is essentially a 100,000-word Cure song.”
