Sphere has landed The Last One at the Wedding, a "big-hearted" thriller from Jason Rekulak.
UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, were acquired by Tilda Key, deputy publisher, from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein on behalf of Doug Stewart at Sterling Lord Literistic. The novel will be published in October 2024, simultaneously with Flatiron Books in the US.
The Last One at the Wedding follows a father who is reunited with his estranged daughter, Maggie, after she invites him to her wedding. The synopsis says: "Maggie is marrying into one of the country’s wealthiest families, but Frank soon realises there’s something strange about the lavish wedding weekend. Perhaps he shouldn’t be celebrating after all…"
Rekulak’s first thriller Hidden Pictures (Sphere) has been optioned by Netflix. He commented: "The entire team at Sphere/Little, Brown did a masterful job of bringing Hidden Pictures to UK readers and I’m extraordinarily happy to be partnering with them for my next novel, a bigger and even more ambitious thriller."
Key added: "The reader response to Hidden Pictures was phenomenal and The Last One at the Wedding is going to capture even more fans for Jason’s emotionally-resonant, gripping thrillers. Jason has a talent for stepping into his characters’ shoes, and they’re guaranteed to stay with you long after you turn the final page."
