Sphere has secured Verity, Colleen Hoover’s previously independently published TikTok hit, alongside a new thriller for publication as a superlead in 2023.
Tilda McDonald, editorial director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for Verity from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein, on behalf of Jane Dystel at Dystel, Goderich & Bourret LLC. McDonald also bought UK and Commonwealth rights for Hoover’s next thriller from Nancy Wiese at Hachette Book Group, on behalf of Dystel. Verity was published in a new paperback edition on 19th January. The untitled novel will be a global Hachette superlead in summer 2023.
Hoover’s previous title, It Ends With Us (Simon & Schuster), became a breakout hit on TikTok five years after it first published. The publisher said: “Verity likewise garnered the BookTok community’s attention in 2021, with readers sharing their shocked reactions to the twist ending”.
McDonald said: “Verity is one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read – Colleen takes the irresistible characters and emotional pull she’s already known for, and puts a new spin on them to make her mark as an outstanding thriller writer. It’s not hard to see why readers recommend her books far and wide. Sphere is very proud to publish Verity and bring Colleen’s next thriller to the world alongside our colleagues at Grand Central.”
Hoover added: “I’m thrilled to find such a wonderful UK home with Sphere for Verity and my upcoming thriller. Tilda and the rest of the team have been wonderful.”
