Sphere has signed Fever Pitch: The History of the Premier League 1992-2004, the book tie-in to the BBC series which aired last year.
Little, Brown acquired world rights to the book, with Sphere publishing director Ed Wood publishing. It will be out in the UK on 29th September 2022.
Released to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Premier League this autumn, and ahead of the World Cup, the book covers the first 12 years of the competition, from the ascendance of Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United to Arsene Wenger’s “invincibles” and the influx of money that came with Roman Abramovich’s arrival at Chelsea. It includes an introduction by former England striker and BBC pundit Alan Shearer.
The book is written by experienced football journalist Paul McCarthy, former sports editor of the News of the World and managing director of Macca Media.
Ed Wood said: “The drama of the Premier League has gripped the world for 30 years. It changed the face not just of football, but of our whole idea of professional sport. Working with Story Films, Paul has produced a book every bit as crammed with drama as the best thriller, full of insight from the key figures of the time.”
