Sphere has signed the memoir from Kristian Nairn, best known for playing Hodor in HBO’s "Game of Thrones", entitled Beyond the Throne: Epic Journeys, Enduring Friendships and Surprising Tales.
Kelly Ellis, publisher for non-fiction, and editor Serena Brett acquired world English rights simultaneously with Hachette Books in the US from Ultra Literary and DunnFogg. The memoir will be published on 24th September 2024.
Beyond the Thrones shares behind-the-scenes stories about "Game of Thrones", the camaraderie between the actors and the "life-altering effects of worldwide stardom". Nairn also shares his personal story, raised by a single mother during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, growing up gay in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, and in Belfast.
The publisher continues: "Nairn finds his voice and his confidence performing as a drag queen called Revvlon, and eventually DJing at the legendary nightclub Kremlin. Through the pitfalls and revelations of his creative pursuits, Nairn comes to understand who he really is, and that he is enough – a message that will resonate for anyone who has struggled to find their place."
Ellis said: "We are proud to be publishing Kristian’s memoir. His book promises to give ’Game of Thrones’ fans incredible behind-the-scenes insight into the making of the show but it is also reveals the beautifully told story of a young man trying to understand who he really is. It’s a life-affirming read that many will identify with."
Nairn added: "I never planned to write a book. However after being told a thousand times that I must tell my story, here we are. I see the early part of my life, as a child, trying to squeeze a round wooden block into a square hole. With time, I learned how to make myself fit into my own life and find my place in the world. If this book even helps one person, it was worth it."
