Square Peg has clinched Small Talk: 10 ADHD Lies and How to Stop Believing Them by Richard and Roxanne Pink, the duo behind the TikTok account @ADHD_Love.
Marianne Tatepo, publishing director, acquired world all-language rights from Oscar Janson-Smith. The book will be published on 16th May 2024 and be supported by an event tour in partnership with Fane. Small Talk will be published in the US by Ten Speed Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House US.
Small Talk debunks 10 common ADHD myths and focuses on the negative emotional impact these can have. "Small Talk will change the way we discuss and understand neurodivergence and, we hope, change lives," said Tatepo. "We are thrilled to be working with the brilliant Rich and Rox again and cannot wait to get this agenda-setting book into readers’ hands and ears."
The authors commented: "In Small Talk we unpack the 10 most devastating core beliefs of ADHD people, from ’I am lazy’ to ’I quit everything I start’. We did this in the hope we can inspire our community to recognise where these beliefs are holding them back, and replace them with something way better.
"It’s so easy to think the worst symptom of ADHD is losing things, getting overwhelmed with admin, or struggling with housework. But it’s actually the core belief that something is deeply wrong with them that does the most damage. We truly hope this book can help partners and parents understand how vital their role is, simply through love and understanding, for helping their ADHDer thrive."
