Square Peg has acquired The Third Gilmore Girl by actor Kelly Bishop, best known for her roles in “Gilmore Girls”, “Dirty Dancing”, “The Marvellous Mrs Maisel” and “A Chorus Line”.
Marianne Tatepo, publishing director at Square Peg, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Paul O’Halloran, subsidiary rights director at Simon & Schuster US. The book will be published in September 2024 alongside Gallery Books at Simon & Schuster US.
The Third Gilmore Girl is described as a “candid and captivating” memoir spanning Bishop’s six decades in the film and TV industry. In the book, she shares some of the greatest life lessons she’s learned on her journey, revealing the story behind some of the cult scenes and relationships in legendary films and TV shows from her career, from Marjorie Housman (Baby’s mum) in “Dirty Dancing” to her titular role as Emily Gilmore, in "Gilmore Girls".
Tatepo said: “Kelly is iconic. Square Peg is thrilled to bring her story to the world for the first time, told with her signature wit, charm and warmth.
“Most memorably, Kelly has become a salve and an inspiration for the millions who indulge in ’Gilmore Girls’ watchalongs every autumn and have been supporting her show-stopping performance as Emily Gilmore for nearly 25 years."
