Square Peg has signed The Wine Flavour Guide, Sam Caporn’s "expert guide" to understanding wine.
Publishing director Marianne Tatepo acquired world all-language rights from Hannah Schofield at LBA Books. The book will be published in September 2024 as a highly-illustrated, full-colour hardback and an e-book.
The author is an influential wine expert known as the "Mistress of Wine". She has won the Madame Bollinger Medal for Outstanding Achievements for her ability to identify wines by taste and smell alone, and appeared on BBC’s "Saturday Kitchen" and ITV’s "This Morning" as a wine expert.
In her first book, Caporn will aim to "help you pick the best wines for every occasion". The synopsis adds: "The Wine Flavour Guide will recommend flavour combinations for different food groups and seasonal moments to suit individual tastes, whether you’re new to wine or a connoisseur. The book is structured around a unique flavour infographic created by Caporn — The Wine Flavour Tree — to help readers to better understand how different wines taste and how to pair them with food, based on their own palate and preferences."
Tatepo said: "Sam is a total dynamo. To have her – one of the best noses and wine masters in the world – write this demystifying infographic-led guide to wine is a gift. Favouring pleasure over convention, Sam unpicks terminology with good humour and total expertise. She maps out how to pair different foods with wine, outlines the essentials of the winemaking process, and explains how to spot wine quality and drink well on any budget."
Caporn added: "I’m passionate about wine education and love teaching people about wine with the sole aim being to build confidence through knowledge to help wine enthusiasts select the best bottle for them, for the (seasonal) food they are eating and the occasion. The Wine Flavour Guide is literally a dream come true and I’m beyond delighted to be working with the incomparable Square Peg, which produces fresh, modern, relevant and let’s not forget beautiful books."
