Vintage imprint Square Peg has bagged the rights to Our Rainbow Queen, celebrating the Queen’s style through a “stunning collection of irresistible vintage photographs” with commentary by journalist Sali Hughes.
Published in time for the Queen’s birthday and the accompanying Trooping the Colour, the colourful takes a photographic journey through Queen Elizabeth II’s ten decades of colour-blocked style.
“From the dusky pinks the Queen wore in girlhood all the way through to #NeonAt90, by way of that hat she wore on the announcement of Brexit, and not forgetting her trusty Launer handbag ever at her side, this must-have collection celebrates the iconic fashion statements of our longest reigning and most vibrant monarch,” said the publisher.
Rowan Yapp, editorial director at Square Peg, bought world all languages rights from Georgia Garrett at Rogers Coleridge and White. North American rights have been licensed to Plume by Jane Kirby, Rights Director Vintage, and Droemer have bought German rights.
Hughes said: “I am utterly delighted to be involved in this, the most joyous of projects. It was a privilege and such enormous fun to immerse myself in the glorious photographic archives, and in the world of an extraordinarily smart, strong and dignified woman I’ve loved and admired since I was a little girl. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to bring writing on this remarkable and fascinating icon to a new audience.”
Yapp added: “You don’t get more 'national treasure' than the Queen especially now ‘The Crown’ has reframed her for a new generation who’ll fall for the irresistible vintage photographs in this stunning collection.”
Square Peg will publish in hardback on 30th May 2019.
