Simon & Schuster UK is set to publish a memoir about group therapy by essayist and writer Christie Tate.
Editorial director Fritha Saunders bought UK and Commonwealth rights including e-book and audio to Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life, from Avid Reader Press. Scheduled for hardback publication in October, the book will be simultaneously published in the US by Avid Reader.
Saunders said: "From the first page, I couldn’t stop reading. Christie writes with raw honesty, great compassion and humour and I know readers will respond to the relatability of her story. While our own experiences may not exactly match Christie’s, through her story, we inevitably learn something about ourselves."
Tate's debut book reflects on her discovering group therapy and getting "psychologically and emotionally naked in a room of six complete strangers".
She said: "I'm thrilled to work with Simon & Schuster UK, whose books I've long admired. I feel extremely lucky to be working with them to bring Group to a UK audience."
