Simon & Schuster is joining forces with Save the Children to mark the launch of Supertato presents Jack and the Beanstalk, by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet.
The book, which is 10th in the publisher’s biggest children’s brand series and the first to be published in hardback, will be out on 10th November, with 10% of the recommended retail price of each copy sold in the UK donated directly to the children’s charity.
In the new story, Supertato, Evil Pea and the veggies put on a pantomime show with hilarious results.
The campaign will be backed by promotional collaborations, including work with celebrity influencers, widespread national media coverage, and an appearance during Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day on 8th December.
In total, 1.13 million of the books have sold for £4.3m in the UK through Nielsen BooKScan, including the hit World Book Day title, with the 2014 series opener, Supertato, on 194,099 copies sold in paperback. A CBeebies TV series is due to launch this autumn.
Picture book publisher Helen Mackenzie Smith said: ‘‘All of us at Simon & Schuster Children’s Books are thrilled to be partnering with Save the Children for this very special publication. The mission of Save the Children aligns closely with what we strive to do as publishers of children’s books and we’re delighted to have this opportunity. Supertato, Evil Pea and the veggies never fail to raise a smile and now they can help to raise much-needed funds to support essential work too."
Caroline Whatley, director of Partnerships at Save the Children, added: “We are delighted Supertato and his nemesis the Evil Pea are supporting this year’s Christmas Jumper Day. Reading sparks children’s imaginations—it’s integral to a child’s education and development and has the power to transform their future. The money raised from the sale of the book will support Save the Children’s programmes to build a better world for children.”
