Still Alice author Lisa Genova has moved to Allen & Unwin from Simon & Schuster UK.
Senior Editor Sam Brown acquired UK Commonwealth excluding ANZ rights to her next novel, Every Note Played, from Simon & Schuster US.
Allen & Unwin will publish the title simultaneously with Simon & Schuster in April 2018.
Every Note Played is described as a love story at its core, about a divorced couple who are forced to reconcile in the wake of a devastating diagnosis of ALS (motor neurone disease).
Brown said: “While the ex-husband’s failing health is at the forefront of these pages, the intense love/hate relationship between them is the crux of the story”. Brown added: “I’m really thrilled about this acquisition as it has enabled us to bring another successful brand author on to the Allen & Unwin list with an incredibly powerful new novel.”
Genova said she was “thrilled” Allen & Unwin was her new UK publishing home and was looking forward to working with “the phenomenal and enthusiastic team there on releasing my next novel”.
Genova has previously penned Inside the O'Briens, Love Anthony, Left Neglected (a Richard and Judy Bookclub pick in 2011), and Still Alice, with the latter adapted into an award-winning film starring Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin and Kristen Stewart.
She holds a degree in biopsychology and holds a PhD in neuroscience from Harvard University.
