Digital publisher Storm has signed two new novels from Kate Hewitt, author of The Secrets We Keep and The Edelweiss Sisters (Bookouture).
Kathryn Taussig, publisher, acquired world all language rights, including audio, film and television, directly from the author. According to the publisher, Hewitt has sold upwards of three million copies, which includes books with Bookouture, Penguin and Harlequin.
The first book in the two-book deal, Lost Lake, follows a family who must relocate to an isolated summer cottage in Ontario, Canada. But just as they are settling in, nuclear strikes erase the world as they know it. A getaway to heal their family has become a desperate struggle for survival. The second book, The Butterfly House, will follow in 2024.
Hewitt will continue to write women’s fiction and historical novels for Bookouture, which has published her since 2018.
She said: “I am so thrilled to be working with Kathryn and Storm on these two stories, which are a new direction for me as I develop another strand of publishing in addition to my women’s fiction and historical novels. Storm’s team has a lot of expertise, and I am excited to see these books brought to new readers.”
Taussig commented: “I feel honoured to have the chance to work with Kate on this exciting new creative direction. The quality of her writing – which is evocative, concise and straight from the heart – will make her successful in whatever type of story she turns her hand to.
“What’s more, Kate’s reviews are some of the most effusive I’ve seen; she has a gift for connecting with her readers. I’m thrilled that she’s bringing these new stories to Storm – we are truly fortunate to have an author of Kate’s calibre on our launch list.”
