Storm has signed After the Rain, an "emotional family drama" by Yellow Crocus author Laila Ibrahim (Lake Union Publishing).
Deputy managing director Claire Bord acquired world English language rights from Annelise Robey of the Jane Rotrosen Agency, and the book will be published in March 2024.
The book, which was originally published under the title Living Right (Flaming Chalice Press), tells the story of a mother and her son, Josh. The synopsis says: "Jenn Henderson arrived home from a brunch at her local church, threw some laundry in the machine and climbed the stairs to wake her 16-year-old son Josh. But as she steps into his room and pulls back the blankets, she finds her sweet boy barely breathing.
"Keeping vigil by his hospital bedside, Jenn is relieved to see her son begin to recover. But as she nurses her son back to health, Josh shares a secret he’s been keeping from his family. A truth he’s found so shameful it nearly ended his life."
Ibrahim said: “I’m delighted to team up with Storm Publishing to bring my second novel (originally published as Living Right) to more readers. I hope this story grows compassion for the challenge of mothering in our complicated, ever-changing world.”
Bord commented: "Laila is a gifted, compassionate storyteller and in this story, she takes the reader into the heart of a seemingly perfect family as they are thrown into crisis. This is a deeply thought-provoking and moving novel that explores themes of identity and acceptance, parental love, and how it’s never too late to redefine the values that are important to us.”
