Storm has acquired five books in a new crime thriller series by Kate Wiley, with the first, In the Blood, introducing homicide detective Margot Phalen and scheduled for publication in February 2024.
Editorial director Vicky Blunden acquired world all-language rights to the five books directly from the author.
The synopsis for In the Blood reads: “Margot wishes she could forget who she is. At 15, she learned the inescapable truth that her father Ed was a serial killer who for decades used the Bay Area as his hunting ground. Twenty years later, she has spent her whole life trying to make amends for his misdeeds.
“But as she and her partner try to unravel the mystery of a murdered family whose sole survivor is giving them more questions than answers, Margot’s past rears its ugly head."
Wiley writes cosy mysteries as Gretchen Rue and a supernatural thriller/urban fantasy series under the name Sierra Dean. Witches’ Brew, her supernatural rom-com series, will be published in the UK by Head of Zeus.
Blunden said: “I started telling anyone who would listen how brilliant In the Blood was and how much I loved it when I was just one chapter in; I couldn’t stop thinking about this book. Kate is such an accomplished writer and the twists and turns in her storytelling are breathtaking. I cannot wait to launch this series and see readers become as totally addicted to Kate’s writing as I am.”
Wiley said: “I’m overjoyed to have signed with Storm Publishing and to be bringing this series to life with them. Margot and her story have been haunting me as an author for years, and I knew immediately that Vicky and the team at Storm saw how special the character was. Their enthusiasm for the book and series was palpable.”
The next books in the series will be Blood of My Blood, out in July 2024; The Blood that Binds - January 2025; Blood Brother - July 2025 and To the Bloody End - January 2026.
