Stripes Publishing, an imprint of the Little Tiger Group, has acquired a MG novel set in the world of Victorian illusionists, by Sharon Gosling.
The Golden Butterfly is about a girl called Luciana who fights back against the patriarchal restrictions of the Society of Magicians. Her grandfather was a great magician and Luciana has to battle to protect his legacy in a fight against the society’s leader.
Editorial Director Ruth Bennett bought world rights in a two-book deal from Ella Kahn at Diamond Kahn and Woods Literary Agency.
“I am delighted to be publishing Sharon Gosling's new historical middle grade novels,” said Bennett. “Sharon's writing conjures up the wonder of the Victorian stage illusionists, with a story of female empowerment that feels incredibly relevant to young readers today. With a spellbinding combination of adventure, mystery and friendship, Sharon brings the sights, sounds and senses of the period to life like magic.”
Gosling has previously written a YA novel, Fir, for Stripes, and a middle grade trilogy for Curious Fox.
Stripes will publish The Golden Butterfly in May 2019.
