Summersdale has signed The Best British Travel Writing of the 21st Century – A Celebration of Outstanding Travel Storytelling in British Media, an anthology edited by Jessica Vincent.
Debbie Chapman, senior commissioning editor, acquired world rights in all languages directly from Vincent, with publication scheduled for 10th March 2022.
Billed as a "celebration of the craft of travel writing and its ability to educate, inspire and build understanding between people and cultures", The Best British Travel Writing of the 21st Century is a collection of 25 travel stories published in a host of British magazines, newspapers and journals over the last two decades. Alongside Vincent, Levison Wood, Monisha Rajesh and Simon Willmore will act as contributing editors.
Following an open call for submissions earlier this summer, the shortlisted stories were announced earlier this month, including writing from Stanley Stewart, Leon McCarron, Noo Saro-Wiwa, Lola Akinmade, Sophy Roberts and Tharik Hussain.
Vincent, who is the current Global Travel Writer of the Year, commented: "After months of reading and deliberating, we finally have our shortlist. From discovering the kindness of strangers in rural Bolivia to seeing Rome afresh through a child's eyes, these are the stories that inspired, educated and, most importantly, made us fall in love with the world all over again."
The final 25 stories will be announced on 31st October 2021 at The British Guild of Travel Writer's "A Celebration of Travel" Gala at the Savoy Hotel in London.
