Sweet Cherry is to publish 10 of Dick King-Smith's titles, with the centenary of the author's birth upcoming in 2022.
The Leicester-based independent children’s publisher secured worldwide English language rights from King-Smith’s estate, represented by Millie Hoskins and Caradoc King at United Agents. The deal was closed by senior editor Kellie Jones.
The titles secured are Daggie Dogfoot/Pigs Might Fly, Dragon Boy, Dodos Are Forever, Julius Caesar’s Goat, Warlock Watson, What Sadie Saw, Sir Tumbleweed, Paddy’s Pot of Gold, Find the White Horse and Friends and Brothers.
Publisher Lara Clift said: “We are ecstatic to be adding such a beloved author to our list. Many of us at Sweet Cherry have been fans of the Dick King-Smith books from a young age, and we hope to bring the same joy of reading his books to generations to come.”
In a statement, Dick King-Smith's family said they "are delighted that Sweet Cherry are publishing new editions from his extensive backlist [and] are looking forward to celebrating Dick's centenary in 2022".
The press will release paperback editions in autumn 2021, along with a special anniversary box set.
