Lisa Taddeo’s Three Women (Bloomsbury) is to be turned into a drama for Showtime following a bidding war, it has been reported.
According to Deadline, the author will write and executive produce the adaptation of her book, which tells the true story of the sex lives of three American women, studied over an eight year period. Like the book, the series will take a multigenerational approach. It will revolve around women in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
There were rumoured to be around 20 feature and TV offers and a number of A-list actresses interested in playing one of the roles. Showtime - which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CBS Corporation based in New York - declined to comment on the deal to Deadline. Taddeo is represented by ICM Partners.
Three Women was one of the most-talked about books at last year’s Frankfurt Book Fair after going to Simon & Schuster US for seven figures along with a novel and a collection of short stories by Taddeo, the UK rights for Three Women was subsequently won by Alexis Kirschbaum, publishing director at Bloomsbury, in a six-figure deal at auction.
Bloomsbury’s marketing and publicity team helped drive a targeted campaign for the title – which was Book of the Month for June - through events, proofs and advertising. This led to significant sales with more than 2,000 pre-orders, 6,000-plus hardbacks sold in the first week, and a Sunday Times number one slot. It has since sold 14,941 across all editions since 9th June, according to Nielsen BookScan.
The Bookseller has contacted Taddeo’s UK agent for comment.
