Team Angelica Publishing has signed world English language rights to Movies That Made Me Gay from American writer and queer Black icon Larry Duplechan. It will publish 2nd October.
John R Gordon, editor-in-chief at Team Angelica, acquired the rights directly from Duplechan. Gordon said: “We’re incredibly excited by this wonderfully readable combination of witty and incisive film analysis and poignant personal memoir from an iconic gay African-American author. Cineastes of every age and inclination will love this book, along with anyone who’s ever made a ‘My Ten Favourite Films’ list on social media – and isn’t that everybody?”
Movies That Made Me Gay is described by Team Angelica Publishing as “an exhilarating, funny and deeply moving guide to the films that shaped Duplechan’s identity as a Black gay man”.
Independent Press Team Angelica Publishing specialise in “maverick queer voices” with an emphasis on Black and brown writers and has published groundbreaking titles from Polari Prize-winner Diriye Osman, to garlanded journalist Chiké Frankie Edozien, whose Lambda Award-winning Lives of Great Men was the first openly gay Nigerian memoir to be published.
