Bonnier Books UK imprint Templar is set to publish a picture book about the US President titled Dear Donald Trump.
The book is written by Sophie Siers and illustrated by Anne Villeneuve and is about a boy called Sam who has to share a room with his brother. One day Sam sees Trump on the TV talking about building a wall and he decides this is the solution to his problems. He decides to write to Trump and initiate a conversation about living with others in times of conflict.
The book was first published in New Zealand by Milwood Press and Templar acquired UK, Irish and Australian rights directly from the publisher.
A hardback version will be released in the UK on 1st November this year and the paperback will follow in March 2019.
Katie Haworth, editorial director at Templar, said: "I stumbled on Dear Donald Trump by Sophie Siers via a friend in New Zealand. I was intrigued! It seemed very brave to write a picture book story featuring Trump’s wall. As soon I read the book, I knew we had to publish it. What I found was a gently humorous, sensitive story about two brothers. It is framed around Sam’s understanding of Trump’s wall and his idea that a similar solution might solve his problems.
"What I especially love about it, is that it’s the perfect book to help parents discuss current events with their children as it looks at the world from a child’s point of view, and it makes relatable comparisons with everyday life – and history.”
