The Borough Press, an imprint of HarperCollins, has pre-empted the literary debut from Rebecca Ley.
World English-language rights were pre-empted by editor-at-large Suzie Dooré, and the one-book deal was agreed with Philippa Sitters at David Godwin Associates.
Ley is also The Betty Trask Award-winning author of the speculative novel Sweet Fruit, Sour Land.
You Made Me Feel Like This, which takes its title from a Tracey Emin artwork, is a literary campus novel about power dynamics and personal boundaries.
Dooré said: "This is the most perfectly realised portrait of a predatory female academic since Notes on a Scandal. Rebecca creates such a convincing, claustrophobic environment in which to play out this brilliant, taut story – she’s a serious literary talent with a genius for plotting."
Ley said: "I am so thrilled that my novel has found its home and is joining such an exciting list at The Borough Press."
Sitters added: "This novel is a deep dive into power dynamics and manipulation, how we exploit one another for the sake of a good story, and I’m so glad it’s landed with the inspiring team at The Borough Press."
The book is scheduled for spring 2026.
