Suzie Dooré, editor-at-large for The Borough Press, has triumphed in a six-way auction for Lori Inglis Hall’s debut A World of Our Making, in a "significant" deal.
She acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Sue Armstrong at C&W Agency. Pamela Dorman at Pamela Dorman Books/Viking pre-empted North American rights, with publication in both markets scheduled for early 2026.
In A World of Our Making, twins Tessa and Theo Armstrong have always told each other everything – until Tessa returns from a summer in France with new, dark secrets that come between them.
“Before Theo can find out what happened, they are separated by the war: he is an airman, and she – unbeknownst to her family – has been plucked from a stultifying secretarial job to join the SOE [Special Operations Executive] on covert missions in occupied France. Two years later, Theo comes home – Tessa does not…” the publisher teased.
Inglis Hall said: “Suzie and the team at The Borough Press have blown me away with their ambition and enthusiasm, and I am beyond excited to work with them on my debut.”
Dooré added: “It takes an extraordinary author to find a new angle on the wartime novel, but Lori has produced a masterpiece – this gave me the same goosebumps I got from first reading Atonement [Vintage] and A God in Ruins [Doubleday], though it is also utterly unique.”
Inglis Hall works as a researcher and rights manager for the estate of the photographer Lee Miller. Previously, she spent a decade working in politics at the House of Commons.
